Good Job Everyone!

Pasta & Jellites:

What a great class we had. You all worked hard, were great peers, had fun, and hopefully learned something along the way. Special thanks to our wonderful TARC's Jacqueline and Nicolet for all of their work and support. Keep in touch and maybe we will see some of you as incoming freshmen at MICA in the future. Thanks!!

Washington, D.C.

I hope everyone had a great time at the National Gallery, Museum of Natural History and The Portrait Gallery.

We are officially past the halfway point of PreCollege, you've all done outstanding work so far so let's finish strong!
This week we will be working on a sequential project so start thinking about a strong concept/idea for your project. Sequential art refers to a series of graphic images that tell a narrative. It's often thought of as comics, but it can be much more. We'll have some reference materials to look at in class in order to ignite your thinking on this project.
As always, it's a real treat to work with you all, and thanks to my wonderful TARC's for all of their work and support.

Below are two of my favorite paintings from yesterday, do you know who the artists are?

Drug-Free America

Jack and Chris did this chalk drawing to warn against the dangers of heroin use. Don't end up on the streets. (Unless it's Step Up 2, The Streets)

ONE WEEK DONE!

Hi Everyone:

First week already done. You all did great work on the Pop Culture portrait. We'll keep working hard and put the pedal down this coming week, starting with a cool travel poster, postcards from the edge to send home, and we'll start sketchbook swaps. This is a terrific group so throw yourself into the MICA experience, take some risks, and have fun. Your TARC's are amazing and cool so get to know them and your peers.
Here's a quick reminder of the artists we talked about this week:
- Al Parker
- John Jay

LINKS! (and new sketchbook assignment!)

Hey all! Great crit today, there was a lot of constructive feedback and helpful comments! I've provided the links below to my and Nicolet's artist's sites.

NICOLET!!

JACQUELINE!!!

Also, don't forget your sketchbook assignment, the repeating pattern. It should be in color (selective color is fine, you don't have to go crazy unless you want to!) Important: follow the directions listed on the "design sponge" blog very carefully, otherwise your pattern will not repeat!

If you want to see how it looks tiled, you can scan or photocopy the tile you made at the library. The library is in Bunting on the first floor (Bunting is the brick building to the right of FOX after you exit) You can scan, photocopy, and make color prints there. You will need flex money on your MICA id. Ask a librarian if you are unsure of how to do all of this. Library hours are 9am-8am weekdays, weekends have shorter hours that I can't remember at the moment! But think, if you print out multiples you can tile your pattern all over your homosote in your dorm room! COOL BEANS!

Some patterns we looked at during class were by these illustrators: Alyssa Nassner Steph Devino Kristin Nohe

Have a great workshop day tomorrow!!!
