ONE WEEK DONE!

Hi Everyone:

First week already done. You all did great work on the Pop Culture portrait. We'll keep working hard and put the pedal down this coming week, starting with a cool travel poster, postcards from the edge to send home, and we'll start sketchbook swaps. This is a terrific group so throw yourself into the MICA experience, take some risks, and have fun. Your TARC's are amazing and cool so get to know them and your peers.
Here's a quick reminder of the artists we talked about this week:

LINKS! (and new sketchbook assignment!)

Hey all! Great crit today, there was a lot of constructive feedback and helpful comments! I've provided the links below to my and Nicolet's artist's sites.

NICOLET!!

JACQUELINE!!!

Also, don't forget your sketchbook assignment, the repeating pattern. It should be in color (selective color is fine, you don't have to go crazy unless you want to!) Important: follow the directions listed on the "design sponge" blog very carefully, otherwise your pattern will not repeat!

If you want to see how it looks tiled, you can scan or photocopy the tile you made at the library. The library is in Bunting on the first floor (Bunting is the brick building to the right of FOX after you exit) You can scan, photocopy, and make color prints there. You will need flex money on your MICA id. Ask a librarian if you are unsure of how to do all of this. Library hours are 9am-8am weekdays, weekends have shorter hours that I can't remember at the moment! But think, if you print out multiples you can tile your pattern all over your homosote in your dorm room! COOL BEANS!

Some patterns we looked at during class were by these illustrators: Alyssa Nassner Steph Devino Kristin Nohe

Have a great workshop day tomorrow!!!

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!?!!

A warm welcome from your TARCS, Jacqueline and Nicolet

Remember the roughs from the first assignment (the pop icon portrait) are due Tuesday during class! Many of you are already well on your way to the final, so that shouldn't be a problem. Refer to the handout from class or leave a post on this entry if you guys have any questions--remember Nicolet and I will be around the Commons too if you ever need help outside of class!

Main points: Black and White! Large Scale! Try to use a dynamic (aka not boring) composition and give some sort of insight to the person you are doing a portrait of (for instance, using props or background elements to enhance the character) Remember since you are not using color, texture and value play an especially big part in the piece.

Sketchbook Assignment---(Due tomorrow, Tuesday morning!)
2 spreads (a spread is two pages in your open book)
First spread: MICA architecture! (you will probably have already finished this during class)
Second spread: Black and white, noses and lips! All kinds! All assorted! All over those two pages!!

Feel free to experiment in your sketchbook and don't be afraid to try something new.

It was so great to see you all in class today, let's start off the session right with a great first assignment! SHOW US WHAT U GOT!
